The main hall is a graceful Gion-zukuri building and was designated as a national treasure in December 2020.
Yasaka Shrine is called “Gion-san” (meaning “Gion Shrine” in Japanese), and is popular for its various good luck charms and oil-absorbent paper, which are beneficial for exorcism, marriage, and beauty.

It is also famous for the Gion Festival, and is widely known as the center of sightseeing in Kyoto.

The adjacent Maruyama Park is designated as a national scenic beauty spot, and in spring, it is the most popular cherry blossom viewing spot in Kyoto, especially for the Gion weeping cherry trees.
In the fall, the area is a popular spot for viewing the autumn leaves along with the nearby Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-dera temples.
