In early March, we stayed at Shiratama no Yu Senkei in Niigata Prefecture. It’s a sister facility of Shiratama no Yu Kaho, which we posted a video about a year ago. We arrived late, at dusk. It seems that we entered through the wrong exit. It’s a big, impressive building. It’s a ryokan with nearly 60 years of history, but it’s constantly being renovated and is beautiful. There are even a few EV chargers installed. A magnificent driveway. The illuminated buildings are also very picturesque. Senkei is a large hotel with 100 rooms in total, and the facilities are excellent. It is ranked 4th overall in the 2024 Professional Selection of the Top 100 Hotels and Ryokans in Japan. We entered through the entrance with a large stone decorated. The first set of automatic doors leads into a large space decorated with gorgeous fresh flowers. When we went through the second door, we saw the check-in counter on our right, gorgeous fresh flowers on our left, and a pond with koi fish swimming in it. Further ahead was the lobby lounge. The spacious lobby lounge with high ceilings and gorgeous chandeliers creates a very open and glamorous atmosphere. We took the elevator to the second floor The lobby lounge seen from the second floor The courtyard is lit up and looks beautiful. Head to the West Wing where our room is. The walls of the wide hallway are decorated with large art works, making it seem like a museum. The second floor houses the breakfast area, convention hall, banquet hall, etc. There are calligraphy and ornaments displayed here and there along the corridor, so you won’t get bored. The West Building is just beyond the bridge. Now take the elevator in the West Wing to our room. We got off the elevator on the third floor. Yukatas and other amenities are available in the area just after getting off the elevator. The room we will be staying in this time is Room 335, a deluxe Japanese-Western room, which is said to have been renovated in December 2022. Open the door and you’ll have a hallway with paintings and a bench. A spacious room with a 10 tatami mat Japanese-style room, a 12 tatami mat living room and a bedroom. A high-quality private space with a particular attention to detail. A large Japanese-style room with a tokonoma alcove, 10 tatami mats in size. Next to it is a 12-tatami living room that can be separated by a shoji door. There’s a bedroom at the back with two double beds. There’s also a dresser next to the bed. A spacious living room with an L-shaped sofa in the middle. There is also a lounge sofa and ottoman set so you can relax and watch TV. The sofas are arranged so that you can relax and there is a stylishly designed table. Senkei ‘s original sweets were served on the table. There ‘s a large cabinet with a minibar and a TV stand. A tablet showing information about the facilities inside the building You can also check the weather and temperature. A small humidifier/air purifier on top of the cabinet. The same appliance is available in the Japanese-style room. The top drawer on the right side of the cabinet contains a built-in security box. The center shelf houses a Bluetooth audio/DVD player. You can watch YouTube on the big TV screen. An electric kettle, a Nespresso machine and water bottles on the shelf. The two black boxes contained Nespresso coffee capsules, coffee creamer, sugar sticks, etc. The top shelf of the left drawer contains a teapot, teacups and saucers, and tea caddies with green tea and Bancha (roasted tea) tea bags. The next drawer holds cups and saucers, lavender, apple and Earl Grey tea bags. The bottom drawer contained wine glasses, stemware, and disposable towels. We opened the cupboard next to the drawer and there was a refrigerator. Let ‘s take a look at the Japanese-style room. The Japanese-style room’s low table, seating chairs and cushions are also stylishly designed. The tokonoma alcove is decorated with beautiful flowers, paintings, and incense burners. An incense burner on a wooden table. A painting of red and white plum blossoms on the wall. The sliding door on the side of the Japanese-style room leads to the bathroom. There is a storage space in front, and the drawers are stocked with yukata, obi, tabi socks, and haori. There are hangers for hanging your coats, and there are plenty of bath baskets and haori coats available. The spacious bathroom is equipped with a large mirror. Hinoki ribbon that you can float in the bathtub to enjoy the scent of hinoki. Let ‘s take a look at the bathroom in the back. It looks like a brand new, beautiful bathroom. The bathtub is spacious and deep. POLA body soap, shampoo, conditioner The toilet is next to the entrance. The toilet is spacious too. The room overlooks the illuminated garden. We will have dinner at the Echigo restaurant "Shunkiraku." We will be shown to a private room at the back. The dry landscape gardens along the corridor We were shown to a private room called "Aoyagi." Today ‘s menu includes lobster, abalone, crab, and specially selected beef. Enjoy the bounty of Echigo with this luxurious kaiseki course. Menu : A wide selection of dishes made with local ingredients. Kanpai-shu: A cocktail made with non-alcoholic plum wine and black tea. Tofu with crab paste Boiled wild vegetables and rape blossoms Squid with Mentaiko (pollock roe) Chicken with pine cone and prosciutto Trout sushi, shrimp Quail egg shaped like rabbit Vinegared Mozuku seaweed caught in Murakami Steamed snow crab We’ll eat it with crab vinegar. Ezo abalone grilled These fresh live abalone are just taken out of the tank and are steamed. Emerald Ale from the local Tsukioka Brewery The abalone looks like it’s done steaming, so I’ll open the lid. The steamed abalone was delicious, soft and moist. We can taste three types of local sake from Niigata : Hakkaisan, Mukauntei, and Echigo Toji. The special menu includes spiny lobster, a gorgeous dish served in a dish carved from an ice pillar. It also includes shrimp and rockfish caught off the coast of Niigata. Nanban shrimp, yellowtail caught in Sado, tuna caught in Nagasaki, red sea bream sashimi. Very fresh and delicious sashimi. The sashimi in the radish enclosure is yanagi garei and scallops. Nodoguro (Blackthroat seaperch) grilled with Niigata sake and Echigo-style porridge Bamboo shoots, eggplant, hajikami and butterbur sprouts dressed in miso sauce It was fatty and very tasty. Spring rolls stuffed with coho salmon, chives, king oyster mushrooms and cheese, garnished with cherry tomatoes and cheese balls. We’ll dip it in cocktail sauce. Shibata beef and highland vegetables grilled style We cook it on a hot grill, which gives it a nice sear. It is served with seaweed salt, wasabi and special soy sauce. We were given a complimentary serving of gorgeous Negitoro. The final course is a bowl of Shibata-produced Koshihikari rice and miso soup with rockfish bones. We had some Negitoro on rice. Dessert is yuzu sorbet with strawberry, kiwi, grapefruit and sweet potato. Sakura pudding in a white bowl The luxurious dishes, made with plenty of seasonal Niigata seafood and mountain produce, were all delicious. We ate until we were about to burst. There’s a shop just outside the dinner place. A variety of Niigata specialties, including local sake, sweets, and Senkei original products are available to purchase. Original sweets from Senkei and Kaho The "Shiratama Sake Brewery" section features sake from Niigata Prefecture. After dinner, we used the private open-air bath, which was available for a fee. This is a private open-air bath that just opened in January 2024. There are two. In the evening, we used the open-air bath at the back, "Tsubaki no Yu." It is a private open-air bath that requires a fee (3,850 yen for 40 minutes). The sliding door opens to fresh flowers and paintings of plum blossoms. A toilet is available. Tatami mats of relaxation space are available for you to relax after your bath. The large glass windows give it a sense of openness. The bathroom is spacious and equipped with a large mirror. Their own found through drilling hot spring "Shiratama no Yu" boasts one of the highest sulfur contents in Japan. It’s a hot spring that will make you beautiful. The separate shower booth has a seat and is equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body soap. The large stone-tiled bathtub features emerald green, viscous water. There are steps and handrails, so people with disabilities and children can use it safely. It ‘s an open-air bath with a sense of openness, but it has a roof so it’s fine even in the rain or snow. We enjoyed the open-air hot spring bath in a luxurious setting, enjoying the privacy of the illuminated garden. Breakfast is a buffet at the convention hall "Ohcho". There are gorgeous artworks on display in this hallway, too. A lounge called "Foyer" located just before the breakfast area. The big ornament, which looks like a festival item, catches your eye. A buffet featuring 40 types of Japanese and Western cuisine, all inspired by the nature of Niigata. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a good picture of the food as we had to wait for an early morning check-out. After we are shown to our seat, return the "vacant" sign and leave it as "dining" First , the salad bar. Potato salad, lettuce, cherry tomatoes. Radish salad and seaweed salad Avocado and corn Duck loin next to bean salad. Fried eggplant in soy sauce Pot eggs Seasonal sesame dressing Yakitaranoko (grilled cod roe) Dried squid Bonito and sweet shrimp sashimi Sweetened herring Grilled Salmon Boiled hijiki and stir-fried burdock Seasonal pickles Simmered taro Vegetable tempura made with seasonal ingredients Crab cream croquette and french fries Curried chicken Tamagoyaki Grapefruit juice, apple juice, iced tea, milk Drinkable yogurt from the local Yasuda Yogurt. There are also three coffee machines. Beef curry Scrambled eggs Wiener sausages Yakisoba Steamed vegetables Shrimp shumai Beef stew Funori soba Mushrooms, natto, seaweed Raisin bread, white bread Chocolate bread, croissants The waffle oven is equipped with Hot corn soup White rice Porridge Miso soup. Pour miso soup into a bowl containing greens and fried tofu. Here , you can have freshly pounded rice cakes torn into round pieces on the spot. We got Zoni with the mochi in our bowl. This is Zoni (Japanese rice cake soup). Grated daikon radish, sesame sauce, kinako (roasted soybean flour), and red bean paste were placed on top. You can dip it into the mochi as you like. Koshihikari rice from Niigata This is the dessert section. Konnyaku mochi, strawberry cream puffs, yogurt cocktail Blueberry jelly Strawberry Mille Crepes, New York Cheese After breakfast, we decided to go to the lobby lounge and have a coffee. We checked in late last night and couldn’t use it, so we took advantage of the opportunity to use it in the morning. The bright and elegant lobby lounge has a different atmosphere from the evening. There are carp swimming in the pond. You can enjoy free coffee, black tea, green tea, etc. There are Nespresso coffee machines lined up. There are also cold drinks available. You can also have Yasuda yogurt ice cream. Large glass windows overlook a beautiful garden. Water flows from the waterfall into the pond. The large rocks in the pond are impressive. Before checking out, we took a private bath in the open-air bath, decorated with fresh flowers and paintings of cherry blossoms. Of the two private open-air baths, we took a bath in the "Sakura no Yu" in the morning. It is built on the opposite side to the other private open-air bath, "Tsubaki- no-Yu," but is roughly the same size. Bath towels and face towels are also provided. The bathroom size is almost the same as the other one. The amenities are the same. The bath space is very clean and spacious. There’s a step in the bathtub so you can get in easily. The refreshing open-air bath in the hot spring on a morning was the best. There’s a relaxation area just outside the bathroom. You can get cold water and popsicles. We took a photo of the large communal bath after checking out. There are two large public baths, which are alternated between men and women at certain times. There are many sinks, each stocked with several different skin care products. The entrance was built by a master craftsman from the prefecture who specializes in restoring important cultural properties. The Shiratama hot spring, which boasts the highest sulfur content in the country, was excavated in 1996 from their own source. Two doors lead into a very large bathroom. This is the largest public bath on the Sea of Japan. There are many separate washing areas. The high ceiling and large glass windows around the bathtub create a sense of openness. There’s a sauna at the back. There is also a cold bath. The sliding glass door is the entrance to the open-air bath. The path to the open-air bath is surrounded by many large stones. The emerald green open-air bath comes into view. The open-air hot spring bath is surrounded by large rocks and trees. You can enjoy the open-air baths while feeling the nature. We came downstairs to check out. When we checked out, we received a photo and message from the person who served us dinner the previous day. We had a short chat with the proprietress in the lobby lounge. Everything about the hotel was wonderful: the well-maintained interior, the food, the rooms, the hot springs, the attentiveness of the staff. 2024年の3月上旬に新潟県月岡温泉にある「白玉の湯 泉慶」に宿泊しました。
「白玉の湯 泉慶」は私たちが昨年宿泊してYoutubeに動画をアップロードした「白玉の湯 華鳳」の姉妹館で、白玉の湯 泉慶・華鳳とも2024年のプロが選ぶホテル・旅館100選の総合4位にランキングしている高級ホテルです。

総部屋数100室で館内設備が充実している大型の宿泊施設ですが、随所に生花や数々の美術品が飾られていて、手入れが行き届いた美しい館内です。歴史のある宿泊施設ですが、館内は順次改装されていて、今回宿泊した客室も新しく綺麗でした。今回利用させていただいた源泉貸切露天風呂は2024年1月にオープンしたばかり。真新しく綺麗でたいへん素晴らしい露天風呂でした。源泉を使っているので本当に気持ちよく入浴することができました。日本海随一の広さを誇る大浴場は全国随一の硫黄含有量の自家源泉「白玉の湯」を使用していて入浴するとお肌がすべすべになると評判です。源泉を引湯した岩で囲まれた露天風呂も素晴らしいです。

夕食は【伊勢海老・あわび・蟹・特選牛】越後の恵みを堪能・贅沢会席プランをお願いしました。鮑に伊勢海老、蟹、ノドグロなど海の幸盛りだくさんのお料理に加え特選牛のグリル、旬の食材をふんだんに取り入れた贅沢な創作懐石料理を堪能しました。食べ切れないほど沢山の豪華な料理を出していただき大大満足です。朝食は広いコンベンションホールでバイキングをいただきました。40種類の和洋折衷のバイキングでつきたてのお餅もいただけました。

手入れの行き届いた綺麗な館内、お料理、お部屋、温泉、スタッフの気遣いなどおもてなしの精神が行き渡った素晴らしいお宿で贅沢な滞在をすることができました。
