Japan Walking Tour|Arashiyama Bamboo Forest|CC|$30 Wagyu Lunch|Kyoto Travel Tip for First Timer|4K

Welcome back! We explored some of the hidden mysteries of Arashiyama in the previous episode, such as romantic stories and legends that the locals know. In this episode, we’ll show you what we had for lunch, and give you some tips and advice on how to make the most of your visit.

We had a blast visiting Rakushisha, and then we checked out the nearby Jōjikoji Temple. It’s such a cool place, with a name that means “the temple of the pure light”. It comes from a Buddhist term that describes the beauty of the world. How awesome is that?

The temple is on the side of Mount Kokura, where a famous poet named Fujiwara no Teika used to live. He wrote some amazing poems in the 13th century, and they are called the Hyakunin Isshu. They are like the classics of Japanese literature.

Jōjikoji Temple was built in the late 1400s, and it has some really old and precious stuff inside. But the best part is the fall colors. The temple is surrounded by red maple trees that look stunning in autumn. It’s one of the top spots to see the fall foliage in Arashiyama.

There’s a sign at the entrance that tells you the rules for visiting the temple. For exmaple, You can’t go back in after you buy a ticket, and you have to dress decently. For some reasons, they don’t accept coins smaller than 10 yen.

The leaves at the temple were already gone, so we headed back to the center of Arashiyama. It was way more crowded than in the morning, and there were rickshaws and cars everywhere. Let me tell you about our trip to Mikami Shrine.

You know, the main part of Arashiyama is around the Togetsukyo Bridge, right? There’s also the Tenryuji Temple, the bamboo grove and some other cool stuff near the station. It was not cold as winter, but we also saw some bright yellow ginkgo trees here and there.

That’s where most people hang out in the Arashiyama. So, if you want to enjoy this area without too much hassle, you better get there early. Mikami Shrine is not far from the bridge, but we never went there before. So we decided to check it out.

There’s a big pond in front of the shrine. In summer, it’s full of lotus flowers. It must be beautiful then. But in winter, it’s just a bunch of dead leaves. It’s a pretty unique shrine. It was built to honor Fujiwara Masayuki.

He was the first one to cut hair for women in Japan, back in the 12th century. It is said that this is the origin of Japan’s hairdressing industry. But people only started to worship him in the 19th century. The shrine was founded in 1961 by some hairdressers from Kyoto.

The shrine itself is small. It has a torii gate, a main hall and some other buildings. He can help you with anything related to hair, like getting a license, growing healthy hair or fixing your hair problems.

Even though it’s kind of hidden, a lot of people visit it. Maybe because it’s the only shrine for hair in Japan? They have all kinds of charms and amulets there. Anyway, we had fun there. Now let’s go to the next spot.

We are at the Sagano Romantic Train. Arashiyama Station. It’s so cool here. The Sagano Romantic Train is a special train line for tourists run by JR West. It’s not like the regular trains that go between Kyoto and Osaka. This cute train started as a tourist attraction in 1991.

The ticket price is 880 yen for adults and 440 yen for kids. It offers passengers a 25-minute journey through a scenic valley, where they can enjoy the beauty of nature in different seasons. There are some yummy snacks waiting for us near the station.

A lot of people from other countries know about the Sagano Train and want to try it when they visit Arashiyama. The Sagano Romantic Train is a sightseeing train line that runs along the Hozugawa River between Arashiyama and Kameoka, which is 7.3km in Kyoto.

To purchase a ticket for the Sagano Romantic Train, you can go to Torokko Saga Station, which is adjacent to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. The train has a nostalgic appearance, with wooden benches and open windows.

All seats are reserved, so it is recommended to buy tickets early, especially during peak seasons such as spring and autumn. You can also board the train at Torokko Arashiyama Station, which is one kilometer west of Torokko Saga Station.

However, there are fewer trains that stop at this station, so please check the timetable before you go. The terminal station of the train is Torokko Kameoka Station

It can take a bus to the boat pier of the Hozugawa River Cruises, or walk five minutes to Umahori Station and take a JR train back to Arashiyama or Kyoto. But be careful, the train doesn’t run from December to February. It starts again on March 1st.

So make sure you check the schedule before you plan your trip. Let’s go grab a bite and explore the amazing bamboo forest trail in Arashiyama! Just follow the slope and you’ll find yourself in a magical world of green.

The bamboo is so high that it blocks the sun and creates a cool shade. You can enjoy the beauty of bamboo all year round, as it never changes its color. It’s always fresh and vibrant, unlike other plants that wither and fade.

The bamboo forest trail is in the north of Togetsukyo Bridge, near Randen Arashiyama Station and JR Saga Arashiyama Station. It’s only a 5-minute walk from there. The trail is surrounded by lush vegetation and bamboo that reaches the sky. It’s a stunning sight to behold.

Bamboo is a symbol of Arashiyama, and you can see why. The trail is not very long, only about 400 meters. You can walk around it in 10 minutes or so. I love walking on the bamboo forest trail every few years. It’s amazing how much the bamboo has grown.

The bamboo is so high, I wonder how it stays upright in the wind. The bamboo forest trail was packed with tourists at noon. It can get crowded and hard to enjoy the scenery.

There are too many bamboo forest trails in other places now, so I don’t feel the same excitement as I did the first time I saw the bamboo. We had a great time exploring the bamboo forest, but we missed the lunch rush.

So we decided to head to the place where we booked our meal. The street was full of different places to eat, drink, and even rent a kimono. We saw some people wearing them and they looked amazing. There are various options for reaching Arashiyama, a scenic area in Kyoto.

You can find more details on how to plan your trip on our blog. There are some tips to help you get there smoothly. We had a great lunch today with some wagyu beef dishes. There are several types of lunch set and drinks.

One of them was a set meal with Murasawa beef steak, which is a type of wagyu beef in Japan. It is known for its fine marbling and rich flavor. The steak was juicy and tender, with just enough fat to make it flavorful.

We also got a roast beef bowl with thin slices of meat and a dab of mustard. The wagyu beef was good. The downside was that the beef was a bit rare for our liking, and it had a strong smell that might not appeal to everyone.

The set meal came with rice, miso soup and some side dishes. The rice was not big. We enjoyed our lunch in Arashiyama, a popular tourist spot. In the trip, We ate a hotel dinner buffet in Osaka, and a traditional dinner set from a Japanese restaurant in Gion, Kyoto.

The price was a bit high, compared with we ate in the trip. You can find out menu and a complete food review from our post. I remembered that I had admired the red leaves at Tenryuji Temple before, so after lunch, I continued sightseeing in Arashiyama.

Tenryuji Temple is a temple with a long history and a world heritage site. What to see at Tenryu-ji Tenryu-ji’s Hatto, like most of the temple’s major building, was destoryed by fire in 1864 and restored in 1868. And the other sightseeing tourist attraction is Sogenchi Teien (Sogen Pond Garden).

Laid out nearly 700 years ago by Zen Master Muso Soseki and still retaining its original appearance, the Sogenchi Garden was the first place as a Site of Special Historic and Scenic Imporatance in Japan. It is designed as a strolling pond garden. The garden also employs “borrowed scenery” (shakkei).

There are lots of scenery and rich in culture in the temple. There were many maple trees planted around the parking lot, but all of them had fallen leaves. It’s drizzling, so let’s go and see where we’re following. Hogan-in Temple, near Tenryuji Temple

It is also a famous spot in Arashiyama for viewing the red leaves. The maple trees next to the temple had just lost their leaves, and the ground was all bright red, like a red tapestry. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from Tenryuji Temple to the Hozu River.

I have viewed Arashiyama from this angle many times, enjoying the clear water of the Hozu River, the passing cruise ships, the noisy tourists, and the spring, autumn and winter of Arashiyama. The winter in Arashiyama is darker and darker than the first time I came here.

Many of the tour boats are not operating and are moored on the shore. Now is not the time for brooding! In the next episode, we will continue sightseeing in Arashiyama and explore new attractions in Arashiyama.
