The Asagaya Tanabata Festival began in 1954 to attract many customers to the shopping arcade even during the hot summer. Today, it is a major event in the Asagaya Pearl Center Shopping Arcade, which runs from the south exit of the station to Ome-kaido.
The handmade haribote (paper dolls), kusudama (paper balls), and streamers that look so close you can reach them are very colorful and perfect for social media. The haribote are a rich variety of dolls, reflecting the latest topics and trends, and imitating popular children’s characters. Some are made by the shops in the shopping arcade, some by children at nearby elementary schools and nursery schools, and some by groups and artists who applied in public competitions.
Families can also enjoy events such as food stalls competing with each other to serve food, yo-yo fishing, and goldfish scooping.
