The Shibuya Konno Hachiman Shrine Annual Festival is the largest festival in Shibuya, held every September.
Held as a festival in the Aoyama and Shibuya areas, it is a traditional event that has been held for over several hundred years to pray for bountiful harvests, the prosperity of the city, and the good health of the shrine’s parishioners and worshippers. 14 portable shrines from each neighborhood in Shibuya gather in front of 109, and the joint procession in which they are all carried up at once is a spectacular sight, and the festival reaches its climax. As you would expect from an international city like Shibuya, people from various countries and regions join in to liven up the festival.
