To the End of the World! Surviving a Full Arctic Winter of Extreme Van Life. Camping & Snow Storm

I am on the roof here, this must be the darkest place I have ever been I wonder what is going on Been getting -20°c here, let us see how far it drops To the end of the world Surviving my first full arctic winter in a van

It is February 10, 8 in the morning So far this winter above the polar circle I have experienced: 3 hurricanes 3 blizzards 4 snow storms 5 avalanches Lower temperatures than minus 33°c (-28°f) 3 nights with Northern lights 1 Roadside recovery 1 Snow chains needed And ARCTIC SURFING!

And I am not yet half way through this Arctic Tour. In this episode I try to make the long journey north to the end of the world on icy roads, through a snow storm and freezing temperatures. After that I will turn east and head further into the arctic unknown

Friendly van from Finland Warning, this episode contains long stretches of freezing van life travel and unique arctic scenery! Warm blanket, hot drink and sunglasses recommended! Good morning, what a beautiful place. Got my coffee. It got way colder than I anticipated. It was below minus 18°c

I could feel it was more difficult to keep the temperature up and the heater worked much harder to keep the van warm. But who cares when you are in this beautiful place here Got another cool van over here, looks like it from Finland I am all stocked up on fuels

I had a beautiful camp spot up here and now I am heading further towards North Cape look at this beautiful day What a spectacular day of driving it has been This endless sunset is just crazy Got some real avalanche danger here

I dont know if you have noticed, but I tend to use a lot of spinach in my meals Today I am feeling a little bit worn out so I made a simple dish that I make when I want something quick That is pasta with chickpeas, spinach and pesto Simple but tasty

I am going to watch a youtube video. I think I will go with one of my favorites, Foresty Forest Foresty Forest is always enjoyable and seems to be a good guy It is 10:40 and the sun just went down It was up for an hour

Got around 300 km to go until I am at North Cape, 160-170 miles. i plan on arriving at North Cape in a day or two It all depends on the weather The weather gets quite bad out there, with road closures, and I really want some good weather out there on the massive plateau

But you know me! It is a gorgeous place, the northern most point of Europe The next few days should be as far to the north as you can go And because I do not have a schedule, I will probably hang around for a while

It is supposed to get a little bit warmer over the next week I am looking at going to a few places that are just insanely cold It is minus 35°c (-31°f) now at one of those place I think around minus 30 is my lower comfort level Let us go north!

If you want to follow my maps, see my campsites and get access to exclusive videos & more you can sign up to: Patreon.com/norwegianxplorer or “Join” here on my channel to become a member I have arrived in the arctic town of Alta

I passed Alta, and now I am going to start climbing up on another notorious mountain plateau It is called Sennalandet, or Senna Country and that place can be pretty harsh and extreme

Right now the forecast is varying between minus 30 degrees and a snow storm and minus 15 and clear skies with northern lights, or both. It is a spectacular place, so I hope the weather is clear enough for me to film some of the views up there

For those of you who compare this tour in the Nordic arctics with Alaska I am going to be camping at around the same latitude as Prudhoe Bay in Alaska 70.12° north Gonna climb up on the mountain plateau and see if I can find a cool campsite Reduced visibility but that is ok

What a long climb this is getting close to the top now This is a long high mountain plateau It is not really that high in elevation, but it is pretty far to the north I wonder how cold it is going to get This is a very cold place

Been getting minus 20° today, lets see how low it gets This place is epic It is dinner time, gonna make a pasta salad from the leftovers from yesterday Pasta and chickpeas from yesterday Pesto, spinach, jalapeños, tomatoes, a red pepper and a light beer

Just a big bowl of salad and Darwin on the trail on Youtube I am on the roof, this must be the darkest place I have ever been I wonder what is going on There is a car coming over here There is absolutely no light up here It is windy

Can you name the constellations? Look at this place here The sun is not up yet. It is 8:30, and here it comes How about those northern lights last night and this amazing sunrise with the pink cliffs It is a quarter to 9 and the sun is still not up

I am 70.12° north. Gonna drive north for 200 more km, or 120 miles And I will reach the North Cape, the northern point of Europe That is going to be quite spectacular today

It is a huge sea cliff that dives into the ocean, and if the weather is good it should be stunning, so that is the plan for today But first the most important meal of the day, coffee The sun is almost up There is the sunshine on my face

Today I am camped on the open and wild Sennalandet, Senna country, mountain plateau It got super cold last night, I was freezing through the night. I kept my heater at 8°c (46°f), which I normally do and I was so cold through the night

I think it was because I parked with the back of the van towards the wind. It is much better to face the wind. I am really looking forward to this day, it is going to be amazing to see these sights here, gonna fly my drone and get some epic shots Amazing place

It got really frosty up here I am heading towards a place called Skaidi, where I need to refill my adblue Been getting a lot of questions about my adblue, because it has a freezing point of -11°c I am pretty much constantly below -11° when I am out here on my arctic winter tour

I have never had any issues with my adblue in these temperatures, I only get a warning when it is time to refill I was looking at Google maps street view yesterday to see if the gas station had any adblue pumps

And I could clearly see the adblue symbol on one of the pumps in Google street view It is pretty far between fueling stations out here so i am glad i didnt have to go into Lakselv or something to get adblue

You could just stay up here for weeks and explore, go skiing and camping. Maybe I will return here after I have been to North Cape. Got my adblue refilled at this pump Time to continue north I am now on the main road to North Cape It is a pretty magical road

In this light it should be stunning I am hoping it is sunny all the way out Some times there are mist and fog out there looks pretty clear today Honningsvåg finally, last town before the North Cape 26 km left, 14 miles. Got a big climb now up on the North Cape plateau

It is icy, but dry ice, so I do not expect any problems It should be amazing up there in this sunset. It is 14:30 and it should be dark in one hour So let us start the climb and get up on the mountain to se some amazing sights 9% incline

The low arctic sun Last stretch! no convoy today 13 km or 7-8 miles This is a tricky road here sometimes Well, it was tricky down there since you have to loose speed for the turn, but it feels ok here I name this “Going to the sun road”

Crossing into the North Cape national park, so no drone zone, but that is ok, I got some good shots coming up here in the middle of the sunset, with a plow tractor in front and we got 700m to go look at this cool view That point out there is Knivskjellodden, Knife Shell Peninsula

Here we are, a lot of snow up here I had planned to park on this big parking lot here, but it looks like it is snowed in and closed I was wrong, they have a different parking arrangement in winter, so I can park here with a couple of other vans

I missed the parking lot entrance, but look at that sunset North Cape, 71°10´21´´north This is cool. I am pretty sure there will be northern light tonight There is the monument Out here we got the North-pole So that is the northernmost point of Europe Great place to visit

Very few people compared to in summer although I saw a Hurtigruten cruise ship down in the harbour I guess the cruise crowd has left now i can highly recommend this in winter if you can stand the ice driving and winter conditions It can be pretty sketchy Look at this sunset here

In the next episode I get trapped in an arctic snow storm for 5 days Please subscribe if you want to follow along as I make my way further east in the arctic, towards Finland and the borderlands with Russia

My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapaliitta Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in the USA and Canada but with a diesel engine, like the one Ryan Twomey uses but diesel and manual transmission, not an Earthroamer by far lol.

  1. This was a real TREAT!! I so enjoyed this and just loved seeing you film the gorgeous end of the world. Blessings!!!

  2. I just love the Pleiades star cluster (also known as the seven sisters). Did I see a meteor at 42:27 ? It's faint. It was in the darker aurora, about 1/3 down from the top, and almost half way from the left.
Edit: slowing down the playback speed to .25 makes it easier to spot it

  3. so incredible. a place I will never see in person. but love escaping from the crazy big city life thru your videos. so magical peaceful and amazing words can’t even express the journey you share. be safe

  4. Looks like you and Truck House Life are in similar conditions. Truck House Life is in Alaska.

There is quite allot of advertisement though which wakes me up with a shock when I’m falling asleep to this nice and quiet video😪

  7. I went last year fantastic scenery, Interesting museum with the history of North Cap. Not many places to park up on the route , most blocked by snow pushed up by the snow ploughs

  8. I look forward to each episode of your travels, I envy you so much, it always looks so cosy in your van, although I'm sure that's not always the case! Glad to see we Welsh people are supporting you!
