Japan – Walking around Ikegami Honmonji Temple in Tokyo after the rain, 4k

I went to visit Ikegami Honmonji Temple in Ota Ward, Tokyo, Japan. Please enjoy it as a virtual walk. This temple is a sacred place for the Nichiren sect, and is said to be one of the seven main temples as the sacred place where Nichiren died.

This is where Saint Nichiren spent his last days, and the story of how his ashes were interred on Mt. Minobu has been passed down from generation to generation. Ikegami Honmonji Temple has been patronized by many samurai and the Tokugawa family since the Edo period, and despite being washed away by the waves of the times, it has maintained its appearance until the present day. There are also many graves of famous people.

The history of Ikegami Honmonji Temple dates back to the latter half of the Kamakura period, when Nichiro, a disciple of the saint Nichiren, maintained the temple and laid the foundations for it to become a sacred place for the Nichiren sect. Since then, Ikegami Honmonji has been worshiped by the shoguns and feudal lords of the Edo period, including Tokugawa Ieyasu, and has grown into a magnificent temple.

In particular, the five-storied pagoda was donated in 1608 by Hidetada, the second shogun of the Tokugawa clan, as a token of his recovery from illness, and it shows the deep faith of the feudal lords of the time. Also, although many of the halls of Ikegami Honmonji Temple were destroyed by air raids during the Pacific War, thanks to the efforts of the temple family and believers, it was reconstructed after the war and has regained its current splendid appearance.
