聚光院という名は戦国武将の三好長慶の法名から取られた名前。

聚光院（じゅこういん）は、京都市北区紫野大徳寺町にある臨済宗大徳寺派の寺院。大本山大徳寺の塔頭。本尊は釈迦如来。聚光院という名は三好長慶の法名「聚光院殿前匠作眠室進近大禅定門」から採られたものである。寺内は通常は公開されていない。
三好長慶の養子である義継が、永禄8年（1565年）に永禄の変で室町幕府第13代将軍の足利義輝を攻め滅ぼした後の翌永禄9年（1566年）に、養父長慶の菩提を弔うため大徳寺の笑嶺宗訢（しょうれいそうきん）を開山として創建した。

千利休が笑嶺和尚に参禅していたことから利休の墓がある。それ以降、表千家・裏千家・武者小路千家の三千家歴代の墓所となっている。

Jukoin is a temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism in Daitokuji-cho, Murasakino, Kita-ku, Kyoto. It is a subtemple of Daitokuji, the head temple of the temple. The principal image is Shaka Nyorai. The name Jukoin comes from Miyoshi Nagayoshi’s posthumous name, “Jukoin-den Zenshosaku Nemushitsu Shinkin Daizenjomon.” The temple is not usually open to the public.

In 1566, Miyoshi Nagayoshi’s adopted son Yoshitsugu built the temple in order to pray for the soul of his foster father Nagayoshi, in the year after he defeated Ashikaga Yoshiteru, the 13th Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate, in the Eiroku Incident.

Sen no Rikyu was a Zen practitioner under Shorei Osho, and so his grave is located here. Since then, it has been the graveyard of the three generations of the Sen schools: Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushakojisenke.
